Bald Eagle Bald Eagle

You soar so high

You spot a little field mouse

From the sky.

You swoop down on your prey,

On this warm warm summer day.

Purched on a branch high in a tree

Watching all the other prey

Trying to flee.

They flee they flee

But they canÕt get away.

Back to the tree branch,

Where the eagle will stay.

First Place

Deanna Hopping, "Eagles in our Nature", V.I.T. Elementary

Eagles

Fly so high that

They look like a drop

Of rain coming down from

The clouds to say hi.

Please keep the

Eagles in nature so

That you can say hi back.

Second Place Lauren Krohe, "Eagles in the Sky", V.I.T. Elementary

I watch the lone eagle soar on high,

Majestic against the blue sky.

Gliding through the air with ease

The king of the sky is at peace.

With the sun glistening off the white

Of his head and tail,

I see the magnificence and beauty of

One of GodÕs crations

Then in a split second,

As fast as lightning flashes,

He plummets from the sky

With some kind of prey in his eagle eye.

He hits the water with a splash.

Talons outstretched,

He catches the prey

And it becomes the eagleÕs meal that day.

Third Place Clara Conover, "What eagles and people do Differently" Illini Central Grade School

Eagles and People are Different

People swing,

Eagles fly.

People eat with forks,

Eagles eat with beaks.

People eat yummy food,

Like Chocolate Cake.

Eagles eat yucky food,

Like Rabbits.

People talk,

Eagles screech.

What IÕm saying is that People and Eagles are different.

Eagles were born like that and we were too.

So letÕs keep them around.

And enjoy how great they are.

They eat yucky food and screech really loud,

But they are like humans.

So letÕs keep them around.

Honorable Mention Miranda Hilst, "Marching Eagle", Illini Central Grade School

The eagle stands with pride like every brave man

WhoÕs stood behind our country and lent a helping hand.

Eagles are the glory of red, white and blue,

They represent our country and what it does for you.

Eagles soar gracefully like marching soldiers sing,

Their dedication as beautiful as wind beneath a wing.

Eagles live. Eagles fly. Eagles breathe. Eagles die.

Honorable Mention Chelsea Ackley, "See the Eagle Fly", V.I.T. Elementary

Can you see the eagle fly high above the sky?

Just watch as it spreads its wings. So many beautiful colors.

It is soaring very high.

Then its pointy, long beak picks up a fish

And carries it away to the nest.

Just watch as it feeds its young. Then the father looks out for birds

And watches as they fly by.

So, can you see the eagle fly high above the sky?

I can see two.

Honorable Mention Tre´ DeLay, "Eagle Wonders" Midwest Central Primary

Long wings flapping

Big nests hanging

Sharp talons grabbing

Scaly fish fleeing

Baby broods tweeting

Pointy bill feeding

Poetry Group 3

Honorable Mention Cody Chears, "Wings Above", Farmington Central High School

An eagle soars,

On wings abroad

Through blowing winds,

Unlike a fraud,

Beautiful is,

His feathers down,

But all along, It makes you frown,

To know that people,

Come and fall,

To kill the beauty,

That represents us all,

Freedom, peace,

And living better,

Like the eagles,

We should be of feather,

With piercing eyes,

And wings so light,

Let it teach us all,

To never fight,

So let us not,

The eagle die,

But be with us,

And fly, fly, fly.
